Switch Out

2001 – 2018

Switch Out was an award-winning national program dedicated to removing, collecting, and managing mercury-containing convenience lighting switches and anti-lock braking system (ABS) sensor modules from end-of-life vehicles in Canada. Since 2001, Scout Environmental operated Switch Out and worked closely with over 1,000 automotive recyclers and dismantlers across Canada, resulting in the responsible management of over 750,000 switches, which is equal to 644 kg of mercury.

In 2008, the program won the silver Environmental Health Award at the Canadian Environment Awards; and in 2011, Switch Out was recognized with a 2011 Minister’s Award for Environmental Excellence.
