Smart Drive Challenge
2016 – 2018
Expanding on our Shuttle Challenge pilot project, Scout Environmental wanted to show Canadian drivers how they could save fuel, money and, most importantly, reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using their current vehicle. For many of us, the biggest individual source of GHG emissions comes from our personal vehicle. Many Canadians feel that public transportation, cycling, or electric vehicles are not viable options, so they need actions they can make now, with their personal vehicle. The Smart Drive Challenge was designed to address all of this.
As the program evolved, emphasis was placed on online training resources and self-directed learning management systems that could provide a range of training videos and resources focused on efficient driving, vehicle maintenance, vehicle technology, low- and zero-emissions vehicles, and active and public forms of transportation. This multi-stakeholder collaboration brought together private, government, non-profit and academic partners to engage drivers in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.
