Keep Cool

2008 – 2009

Keep Cool was a market transformation campaign with the goal of encouraging individuals to retire and recycle their old, inefficient room air conditioners and adopt cleaner, more efficient cooling alternatives. High concentrations of smog-producing chemicals are a result of inefficient room air conditioners (RACs), which use 30-70% more energy than newer efficient ENERGY STAR® qualified models. Keep Cool offered incentives to participants to help encourage them to retire their old air conditioners and have them recycle them responsibly, with ozone-depleting gases contained properly and by certified technicians. In total, over 45,200 RACs were retired and responsibly recycled through Keep Cool. Almost 30 MW and over 15,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases were saved.
