Switch the ‘Statis a stewardship program focused on recovering old thermostats and keeping mercury out of the waste stream.
The program is funded by thermostat manufacturers, administered by the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), supported by Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) and delivered by Scout. We work with HVAC and plumbing contractors and wholesalers in the field to collected end-of-life thermostats.
Switch the ‘Stat is regulated in BC and Manitoba and operates voluntarily across the rest of the country. We are always looking for more participants!
Since 2006, Switch the ‘Stat has kept over 485 kg of mercury out of the waste stream by recovering over 190,000 mercury vessels, as well as recycling over 4780 kg of plastic and over 1,920 kg of metal.
