Air Health Check

Public Engagement on Air Quality and Extreme Heat

In spring and summer 2015, we designed and delivered the Air Health Check campaign on behalf of Health Canada and in partnership with The Running Room. Air Health Check was a field marketing campaign focused on driving awareness of air quality and extreme heat as health issues, and educating Canadians on the risks as well as preventative steps that can be taken to protect their health. Central to the campaign was the promotion of the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) as an important tool for Canadians and the promotion of leading healthy and active lifestyles.

Our outreach strategy was centered on in-person engagement events and rich, digital content.

The event tactics included one-on-one engagement in major urban centres, allowing teams of our Event Ambassadors to engage large groups of Canadians in face-to-face conversations. Events were held at 17 Running Room store locations and seven Running Room sponsored races/marathons.

The online content was easily accessible to Canadians across the country and served as an interactive tool to drive education and awareness around the campaign’s central issues. It also served as a means of widening the program reach through social media sharing.

Ending on August 31, 2015, the campaign achieved the following results:

  • Over 5,800 conversations with Canadians
  • Over 5,700 handouts distributed
  • Over 5,000 web users/8,900 page views
  • Over 35,000 video views
  • Over 2,790,000 media impressions

As a legacy of the program, the campaign website is still available at www.airhealthcheck.ca
